Ship speed key to protecting New Zealand’s resident Bryde’s whales

A Byrde's whale.

A Byrde's whale. While we don’t always like to slow down when we’re out for a drive, most of us appreciate the need reduce our speed; we don’t hesitate to comply with speed limits in school zones, for example. Just as pedestrians are more at risk of fatal injuries when hit by vehicles at higher speed, it’s the same for whales in busy shipping lanes.

IFAW BRRC:

Continuing to be a voice of action for big cat welfare

Continuing to be a voice of action for big cat welfare

Now that the election is behind us, I’m reminded that, no matter what party you support, we all need to take a bipartisan approach in order to most effectively address issues of critical importance. I’m thankful for our Congressional champions—Reps. McKeon and Sanchez, and Sen. Kerry—as well as the now 50 co-sponsors of the bill—for exemplifying this type of approach.

Big cat welfare and human safety are unifying issues that we all should stand behind, and urge our lawmakers to do so as well.
