Amazing rescue of struggling seal caught in buoy lines off Cape Cod

Recently during one of our weekly morning staff meetings, I received a call on our stranding hotline from the Massachusetts Environmental Police. One of their officers was out patrolling Pleasant Bay in Chatham, and had spotted a seal that was entangled in a buoy line of a pot gear fishery.

Uganda Seizes Two Tonnes of Ivory

Uganda has seized two tonnes (4,600lb) of elephant ivory, bringing to six tonnes the amount of ivory confiscated and linked to the east African country in just over a week.

Reports today say the ivory was intercepted by Uganda officials en route to Mombasa in Kenya, a main departure port for illegal ivory bound for Asia.

The bust occurs after Kenya authorities last week said they had intercepted two consignments of two tonnes of ivory each in the previous seven days at Mombasa Port. Both were packed into containers sent from Uganda.

”Lily” quilts, made from thousands of letters of love and support for an abused dog, were today handed over to the Cape Town animal welfare project that saved her.

Two years ago animal lovers were shocked by the news that a dog had been buried alive on the orders of a high school principal, for being a “nuisance”.
