絶滅危惧種のアムールトラ、極東ロシアで野生に帰される

ゾルーシュカ(ロシア語でシンデレラ)という名の雌のトラが、国際動物福祉基金(IFAW - www.ifaw.org)及びフェニックス・ファンド、スペシャル・インスペクション・タイガー、A.N.セベルツォフ生態学・進化学研究所、ロシア科学アカデミーの手によって無事野生に帰されました。

ロシア極東ではよくあることですが、この雌アムールトラは2012年の冬に孤児となりました。母親は密猟の犠牲になったと思われます。

「トラの生息地は縮小しています。これまでにないほどの伐採や山火事によって、彼らの狩りの領域は狭まっています。有蹄動物(トラの獲物)の数が減っていることも深刻な問題です」とIFAWロシア事務所長、マリア・ヴォロンツォワは言います。「隣国中国においてトラは伝統薬として高値で取引されているため、密猟が蔓延しています。こうしたさまざまな要因が多くの雌トラの死を招いています。その結果、お腹を空かせて憔悴したトラの子どもは餌を求めて村へさまよい込むのです。」
