Arab League Calls for Collaboration to Fight Wildlife Crime

The Arab League has called for Arab States to join in the fight against wildlife crime by actively participating in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). It also thanked IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare, www.ifaw.org) for providing technical support to improve Arab capacity building, leading towards more effective efforts to fight wildlife crime.
"Working on the ground in 15 countries around the world has given IFAW an opportunity to help many states build their wildlife law enforcement capacity," said Executive Vice President Azzedine Downes, "the Arab League's efforts to enforce CITES regulations will help protect the animals so important to Arab traditions and history for generations to come."

In the year leading up to the next CITES CoP14, taking place in the Netherlands, IFAW will help facilitate the meeting of Arab States in order for those members to hold conversations amongst themselves about their collective interests and enable them to coordinate their positions on key policy issues.
