IFAW Donates Heating System to Beijing Animal Shelter

According to Center Director Ms. Zhang Lvping the center has accepted nearly a thousand homeless dogs and cats since its founding five years ago. At present, around 500 animals are still living there. Many of the animals – all abandoned – are old, weak, sick or disabled. Since 1999 IFAW has donated more than $170,000 (US) to assist with building improvements, medical care and daily expenses.

IFAW China country Director, Dr. Zhang Li said, “The Beijing Human and Animal Environmental Education Center is an IFAW Center of Excellence, and serves as a model for animal welfare around the world. The heating system will give these homeless animals a warm and comfortable temporary home but  the ultimate goal is still that each of these animals can be adopted by kind-hearted and responsible families.”

IFAW is dedicated to promoting humane companion animal policies in China, including: vaccination, spay and neuter programs, responsible companion animal ownership and adoption of cats and dogs. For the past five years, the Beijing Human and Animal Environmental Education Center has been a model of these principals.

Ms. Zhang Lvping said, “IFAW always gives a helping hand to animals in urgent need. Since the center is situated in the northern suburbs of Beijing, winter is a harsh season for all the animals, especially the old and frail ones. The heating system is our biggest worry. Thanks to the financial aid from IFAW, the puppies and kittens will finally have a warm home this winter. We’re looking forward to cooperating more closely with IFAW in raising public awareness about animal welfare next year.”
