IFAW Canada: We found seals on the beach!
After driving to the northeast corner of PEI and checking out a few different beaches in the area, we found a beach with a few whitecoat harp seal pups and a blueback hooded seal pup. Without the necessary sea ice in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, these seals washed up on the shores of PEI. The pups were resting on small bits of ice along the waterline or in some cases had hauled out onto the beach itself. Click on the slideshow below to see how these ice-dependent seals are affected by the worst ice year on record.
