Project 551 - Australians make a whale tail to stop whaling
As the start of the Japanese whaling season draws nearer, we have found a unique way here in Australia to encourage our government to fulfil the promises they made during the election in 2007. We are asking everyday Australians to take a photo of themselves making a whale tail with their hands and uploading it to www.project551.org
The name - Project 551 was chosen as last season the Government of Japan killed 551 whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Initially hoping for 551 photos to represent these whales we have been amazed at the level of support across the community and are anticipating many more.
By adding a photo to the project people are not only showing their support for whales but the photos will be used to create a book, presented to Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, illustrating the level of support across the Australian community for the Government to take action to protect whales.
The photos will be used to create not only The Big Book but also a commercial and posters, to petition the Australian Government to do everything they can to stop the Government of Japan killing more whales.
