Baby orca born to pod near BC
A newborn orca has been spotted swimming near Washington State with a group of endangered whales known as "J Pod". Happily, the newborn's mother, J14, has had four previous offspring survive, so the young whale should have a good future.
J pod is currently dining on salmon near Whidbey Island, located in Puget Sound. Researchers believe that 88 orcas live along the western coast of the US, and that they're divided into three family groups called "J", "K", and "L" pods. L pod has already moved south, and is now off-shore California.
