Newborn Asian elephant calf discovered in China

The new elephant calf "Weibo" with his herd in Pu'er.

I was happy to see this picture of a newborn Asian elephant in the Pu’er prefecture, where the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Asian elephant protection program is working to reduce human and elephant conflict.

This brings the total elephant population to 43 in this area. This little one was estimated to be born about a month and half ago and now he or she seems to be up and ready to roam with the family.

IFAW is working around the world to protect elephants from the many threats they face. Be sure to visit our Facebook page to sign the petition against ivory trade which is threatening elephants everywhere. -- GG
