Международный фонд защиты животных IFAW приветствует объявленное 31 марта 2013 года вступление в силу увеличения нормативов стоимости для исчисления размера вреда, причиненного особо ценным объектам животного мира, занесенным в Красную книгу Российской Федерации. Речь идет о таких видах, как белый медведь, амурский тигр, леопард, снежный барс, дзерен, амурский горал, безоаровый козел, алтайский горный баран и подвиды снежного барана, беркут, кречет, балобан, сапсан.

Official government of Japan statistics, Japanese press clippings, and public opinion polling in Japan show conclusively that the claim that Japanese commercial whaling is a cultural and nutritional necessity is a lie. Commercial whaling in Japan is an industry that is not profitable, that is able to exist only because of taxpayer subsidies, and that provides a product catering increasingly to a shrinking and ageing market.

EU Trade Commissioner de Gucht stands strong for seals

I was encouraged to receive a response confirming the commitment to fight hard in defence of the ban.As the EU defends the 27 (soon to be 28 country) ban on seal products before the next WTO panel hearing, it is vital that we bolster our efforts to demonstrate the strength of public opposition to the cruelty of seal hunting.

Les sauveteurs du Fonds international pour la protection des animaux (IFAW - www.ifaw.org) ont dépêché une nouvelle équipe en Oklahoma pour porter secours aux animaux sauvages victimes de la tornade qui a ravagé la ville de Moore. De nombreux rapaces, mammifères et oiseaux chanteurs de la région ont ainsi été blessés ou déplacés par les vents violents et la destruction de leur habitat.

Tijdens ons bezoek aan Cozumel, Mexico,  deze week ontdekte ons team een wanhopige hond die dringend hulp nodig had. Toen we door de mangroven (vochtige, jungle-achtige moerassen) reden, zagen we hem; bedekt met motorolie en weinig meer dan een hoopje botten en haar. In zijn mond had hij een dode opossum, hij was uitgehongerd en wanhopig op zoek geweest naar eten.
