In an ironic coming of spring, Canada sets seal quota at 400,000 pups
Markets for seal products are disappearing, and seals need protection from threats like climate change more than ever, but Canada's Department of Fisheries and Oceans is ignoring its own scientific advice and setting the kill quota for harp seals at 400,000.
Unbelievable!
We need to keep the pressure on to end this slaughter, and IFAW will be at the seal hunt again this year to bear witness and expose the cruelty.

Sinto uma tristeza profunda...Me envergonho de ser humana!!!
No!!!! I'm so ashamed of this....
I'm so upset about this. I don't know what to do.
...unbelievable..:( when is this going to stop?
I'd like to have witnessed the reasoning the department used to convince Canadian Government of the use of this hunt. With global markets shutting down left right and center (thank goodness for that) where do a) think they are going to sell the pelts to and b) do they really think this, highly seasonal business is boosting Canadian Economy? I dare say it might cost them more to fund the hunt than it brings in... Outrageous, disgusting, unrelentless, cruel, wastefull and barbaric. I am glad I am not Canadian and am truly sorry for those who are and don't support this madness. It must feel awfull...
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! What is wrong with canadians?? Completely sad news. What else can we do to help??????
It makes me sick that our bloody government condones this murder. I have even written to my member of parliament and received a blah blah blah letter which consisted of a bunch of hot air. I just don't understand why Canada is still allowing this to go on in spite of knowing that there is less and less demand for anything from seals. I know that Harper went to Asia to encourage the chinese to buy buy buy anything seal...I believe that an agreement was reached. It's so bloody frustrating!!!
How is shooting an adult seal cruel, the animal is dead before the bullet exits its brain.t with a population of nearing 10 plus million, therefore 400k is at or less than 4 %^ ,the cows that MacDonalds use for its burgers far exceeds 4 % of that population. Therefore, closing down all fast food establishments kis a greater concern than stopping the killing of less than 4% of the adult seal population.
Sadly I am from Newfoundland, One of the main par-takers in theis useless and barbaric practice. I have never, nor will I ever support this disgracefull practice. I am saddened at the fact that it goes on around me year after year. I hope the hunt dies with the generations , sad to say. It is not a part of our culture anymore, and should not be a part of anyone's. No wonder the population is decreasing, with no ice and then being brutally murdered. I am so sad that we " humans" are the cause of inevitable death of this entire planet. :(
wtf?! where is the Petition for this? yeesh! i will sign it !
