Don’t pull the rug from under foreign wildlife

The House Natural Resources Committee held a hearing on July 19 on five bills that seek to undermine crucial parts of the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

The ESA has successfully saved more than 99% of listed species from extinction.

We need to ensure that Congress stands up for the ESA, instead of trying to tear it down brick by brick.

Among the bills debated at the hearing was one that could irreparably damage conservation efforts: The “Saving America’s Endangered Species Act” takes direct aim at species overseas, while doing nothing to protect our domestic wildlife. It is a giveaway to trophy hunters and wildlife traffickers, disguised as a conservation measure.

Other bills addressed at the hearing would target gray wolves, undermine the scientific process behind the ESA, hurt citizens’ ability to participate, and more. Taken together, they would greatly weaken the foundation that protects our most imperiled wildlife.

Tell your member of Congress to oppose these bills and all future efforts to undermine the Endangered Species Act.
