Marcelle du Plessis, Fundraising and Communications Manager for Mdzananda Animal Clinic.
Since I can remember I have had an ingrained passion for creativity and entrepreneurship. In the same breath I was born with a very compassionate heart.
I studied Architecture and completed my Bachelor in Architectural Studies at the University of Cape Town in 2009. My second passion for entrepreneurship was led me to completing my Postgraduate Degree in Management Studies specialising in Entrepreneurship in 2010. My compassionate heart has led to me doing socially related work - I will never find my worth in money and status, but I will in the difference that I make for others.
I started a social enterprise in 2011 called Lavender in Lavender Hill. This I still run part time today. Here I put my studies into practice in terms of marketing, public relations and fundraising. My heart was however unfilled as my deepest love of all lay with animals.
After suffering from a severe eating disorder for many years until 2010 when I decided to get a puppy. I had always loved animals, grown up with animals and rescued stray dogs. Baloo, a Jack Russell-cross-Corgi from Macassar township came into my life and took over my world. He healed every part of me, became my best friend, my shoulder to cry on, my baby, my strength, my hope and my complete love. He was the reason that my life healed and he is still the reason for the largest part of joy in my life.
I decided to channel my very developed skills into helping animals and started working with the Mdzananda Animal Clinic in April 2012. I have never looked back. Not only am I helping animals, but I am helping the people of the community experience the blessings which their animals bring them.
