The tranquil waters off the Kimberley and Ningaloo coasts are home to a great diversity of whales and dolphins, including the world’s largest, but still fragile, population of humpback whales. This area of our North west coast is our Last Great Whale Haven.

Recently we asked for your support in helping to protect this precious area by sending a comment to the Federal Government during their North and North-west coast Bioregional planning process. Over 20,000 comments were sent to the Government through the Save our Tropical Seallfe alliance (SOTS – http://www.saveourtropicalsealife.org.au), of which IFAW is one of 13 members.
These comments asked for highly protected marine reserves and greater limits on oil and gas development where whales and dolphins live.

We are pleased to let you know that 8,500 of these comments were submitted by IFAW supporters. Many thanks for making sure your voices were heard!

Unfortunately though, the North-west is not yet protected from the oil and gas industry. If you entered a submission to Tony Burke, you can now take further action. Urge your local MP to make sure the Government protects this critical whale and dolphin habitat from becoming an industrial wasteland. And if you didn’t have your say before, now’s your chance!

Ask your local MP to protect our North-west marine region from harmful industrial development, and ask him or her to pass on your message to Environment Minister Burke and the Federal Government.

Thanks again for your support!
