IFAW Proposal for polar bear protection
• The Polar bear has been recognized by Parties,
intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations,
and leading scientists as being threatened with
extinction due to melting sea ice and other factors.
One of these factors is unsustainable international
trade, which is having an additional detrimental impact
on the continued survival of the species. Thus, the
polar bear clearly meets the CITES criteria for listing on
Appendix I set forth in Res. Conf. 9.24 (Rev. CoP15),
specifically Annex I, Paragraph C) ii).
