UAE Ministry and IFAW Sign a Memorandum of Understanding

The UAE Ministry of Environment and Water and IFAW’s office in Dubai signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) intended to promote environmental education and create awareness about environmental conservation.

Dr. Elsayed Ahmed Ahmed Mohammed, Regional Director of IFAW Middle East and North Africa office and Dr. Mariam Hassan Al-Shanasi, Undersecretary of the Technical Affairs at the Ministry of Environment and Water signed the MoU in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The purpose of the 1-year agreement is to collaborate on environmental and conservation education projects and activities. In addition, the collaboration may include:

  • Organizing and conducting CITES training and workshops
  • Publishing environmental education stories
  • Participating in, “What you carry may harm you,” a campaign to educate travelers about the laws regulating the import and export of endangered plants and animals listed under CITES.
  • Participating in awareness events, community outreach campaigns and environmental programs, activities and exhibitions

The parties agreed to establish a joint committee to review, identify, implement and activate the MoU.
