The fruits of our Middle East regional workshop labors begin to appear
After several workshops with Dubai customs, the Middle East & North Africa (MENA) office of International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) started the harvest of the fruits from our labors.
From Dec 11th – 13th 2012, IFAW, in cooperation with Dubai Customs, managed one of the training workshops to help Dubai Customs officers meet the new challenges in the area.
The workshop aims to give a clear image about the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species – CITES, the national authorities in charge of implementing the convention, the national and international legislations in this regard, the procedures to get a CITES certificate and who are the authorities issuing these types of certificates.
Confiscated items were displayed to educate the participants on how to identify the wildlife products.
On the last day of the workshop, IFAW honored Mohammad Ghanem Almazrou’e; an officer who received IFAW training earlier and aborted an attempt last month to smuggle into the country a large consignment of ivory hidden in 40 boxes containing green beans.
