What have Suzy and Johnny been up to?
One of the most important aspects of the pilot grizzly bear project is the post
release monitoring. The monitoring will tell how the bears are
surviving
in the wild and what they are doing. Prior to release,
both bears were
fitted with collars that allow their daily movements to
be tracked.
The project is fortunate to have two dedicated
researchers, Joachim Treptow and
Ruth Fitzell, who are following Suzy
and Johnny until they hibernate in the
autumn.
Upon release Suzy and Johnny separated almost immediately and have traveled apart all summer. They have each chosen their own separate mountains to live on. You can find excerpts from Ruth and Joachim’s field diaries to the left.
