On May 19, 2009, IFAW Honorary Board Members Keely and Pierce Brosnan joined IFAW in Washington, DC to call for renewed U.S. leadership in whale conservation. The Brosnans joined IFAW President Fred O'Regan for a morning meeting at the White House with senior Administration officials to convey the importance of whale conservation at this critical time for the species.

That evening, the Brosnans hosted an IFAW Congressional Reception at the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center to celebrate U.S. leadership in whale conservation. Over 200 guests attended, including Congressional members and staff, Administration officials, IFAW Board members and supporters, representatives from other environmental NGOs, media, and celebrities. Featured speakers included Congressmen Eni Faleomavaega and William Delahunt, co-sponsors of the International Whale Conservation and Protection Act of 2009; IFAW President Fred O'Regan; IFAW Board member Chris Matthews, who served as Master of Ceremonies; and IFAW Honorary Board member Goran Visnjic.
