IFAW launches new Animal Emergency Relief and Climate Change report

IFAW has launched a new report, “Unnatural Disasters: The Impacts of Climate-Related Emergencies on Wildlife, Livestock, and Companion Animals.”  In this report we assess the link between climate change and the likelihood of increased more intense natural disasters. We also discuss how these more frequent and severe natural disasters could impact animals and require decision-makers to plan for necessary animal emergency relief efforts.

The report calls on the United States Government, the United Nations and other Intergovernmental Organizations, NGOs and the private sector to work together to support animal emergency preventative, preparedness and relief efforts in order to alleviate the immediate, and devastating effects of climate change that threaten animals.

This report launches as world leaders from 193 countries will meet at the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen with the goal of entering into a global climate agreement.
