The International Fund for Animal Welfare has won a Sustain Magazine award in the "Communications" category for our "Adopt a Humpback" campaign.
Competition for the coveted award was fierce, and with heavyweights like M&S in the ring it would surely take only the most brilliant campaign to win.
However, IFAW's campaign gained the admiration of the judges, who were won over by "the combination of creativity and deliverability, with the campaign securing personal buy-in to achieve global impact."
Adopt a Humpback campaign
This campaign was aimed at stopping Japan from killing 50 threatened humpback whales in Antarctica. To engage media and politicians IFAW “adopted” named whales for every UK MP and encouraged them to take actions on their behalf. More than 150 MPs spoke out and humpbacks were granted a temporary reprieve.
