Ecotourism Guide: Wildlife Souvenirs By Country

Bookmark and Share

The following are just some examples of animal products and activities to avoid while traveling.  When in doubt about a souvenir, it’s best to avoid it altogether.

Africa: One of the most popular destinations for face to face encounters with wild animals, it's also one of the most prevalent places for wildlife souvenirs made from poached and endangered animals, especially ivory products.

Europe: While most people may not think of Europe as a haven for endangered wildlife souvenirs, it's a lot more problematic than you might think.

North/South America: The wildlife souvenirs offered in South America are too numerous to list and in North America, unscrupulous traders sell illegal animal trinkets to those who have no idea where they come from.

Asia: Asia, particularly Thailand, is one of the world's hotspots for illegal ivory products, and many other wildlife products.
