Sea Turtle Population Assessment, Data Management & Awareness in the Caribbean

Bookmark and Share

Efforts in the Caribbean are largely focused on protecting sea turtle nesting beaches on the islands of Dominica and Trinidad & Tobago. IFAW partnered with the Zoological Society of Trinidad & Tobago and the Dominica Sea Turtle Conservation Organization. These partnerships resulted in a reported decline in poaching incidents of sea turtles on the beaches patrolled on Dominica and zero incidents of poaching on Manzanilla Beach in Trinidad & Tobago.

IFAW provides funds to Dominica Sea Turtle Conservation Organisation (DomSeTCO) and the Dominican Forestry and Wildlife Division for protecting sea turtle nesting sites on Dominica. These funds have strengthened the working partnership with the Dominican Forestry and Fisheries department. The study beaches are in the northeast and southeast of Dominica but the outreach program covers the entire island country.
