Emergency Elephant Move in Malawi

IFAW is partnering with the government of Malawi in an epic rescue effort to move the elephants from fierce human-elephant conflict in the Phirilongwe area, just south of Lake Malawi.
We are moving the whole herd to Majete Wildlife Reserve, a protected park 250 km away.
In this picture, one of the tranquilized elephants is winched aboard a recovery vehicle.

Victory for Seals in Europe!

MEP Robert Evans & MEP Frieda Brepoels in Strasbourg holding postcards from IFAW supporters across the EU calling for the ban of seal products .
The European Parliament voted in favor of a ban on the trade of all seal products within the EU. This is a significant victory in IFAW’s 40 year campaign to end Canada’s commercial seal hunt. The ban will forbid the sale of seal products for profit within the EU.
We now need your help more than ever to end this cruel and unnecessary hunt.

Controversial Ivory Sale Concludes

A week-long series of ivory auctions has concluded, with many tons of ivory sold to bidders from China and Japan. This is the first time in nearly 10 years that international trade in elephant ivory has been sanctioned by the UN-backed Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES).
The total amount of ivory put up for sale accounted for an estimated 10,000+ dead elephants. IFAW fears that the sale will stimulate demand for illegal ivory to enter the market, resulting in an increase in poaching.
