IFAW Helping Pakistan’s Animals
Relentless monsoon rains have caused the worst flooding in Pakistan’s history. IFAW is working with a local animal and humanitarian relief agency to feed starving animals. We are closely monitoring development to see how else we can help, and have reached out to other international animal aid organizations to see how we can best work together to help Pakistan's animals.
Stunning Victory for Whales
Breaking News: The International Whaling Commission’s controversial proposal to legalize commercial whaling has failed.
This stunning news comes after IFAW supporters around the world voiced their opposition to the plan through hundreds-of-thousands of phone calls, emails, letters, postcards, and petition signatures.
Thanks to everyone who acted and helped win this victory for whales!
Released Vulture Won’t Take Wing
Two black vultures that had been brought to IFAW’s Beijing Raptor Rescue Center (BRRC) earlier this year were released last Sunday. But as this China Daily article explains, only one of the raptors took flight.
The timid bird has been brought back to the Center and paired up with another black vulture to learn the necessary survival skills and to be less reliant on his human caretakers. IFAW’s BRRC will attempt another release when the raptor is ready.
EU Environment Commissioner Janez Potočnik shows his support for whales.

Commissioner Janez Potočnik stopped by the IFAW booth at this year's Green Week to learn more about the various threats to whales. He took the time to make his own 'whale tail' while IFAW campaigners explained that the current IWC Chair proposal is a victory for whalers - not whales. It tears up 60 years of IWC efforts to conserve whales, marginalises scientific input and destroys the moratorium on whaling and the Southern Ocean whale sanctuary. Show your support for whales by making your own whale tail.
