(Sydney, Australia) - IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) is delighted to recognise Ben Peacock, founder of communications agency Republic of Everyone and Phil Benedictus, founder of media agency Benedictus Media, by awarding them IFAW Action Awards for their outstanding contribution to raising awareness of animal welfare issues.

The awards were presented today as part of Animal Action Week by IFAW Asia Pacific Director, Erica Martin.

“Both Ben Peacock and Phil Benedictus have become as passionate about our campaigns as we are. They have worked tirelessly to produce creative materials communicating our messages and placed them in media which would ordinarily be far beyond our budget for maximum effect and impact. We have literally reached millions of people thanks to the work of these extraordinary individuals” said Ms Martin.

Ben Peacock’s agency, Republic of Everyone, works on green, ethical and sustainable projects and jumped at the chance when approached to help with IFAW's anti-whaling campaign.

Ben Peacock helped IFAW create a campaign motivating Australians to take action through online, outdoor and press ads, and was the brain behind IFAW’s Project 551, a project to show just how many people support whales and want to see an end to whaling.

“Creativity is one of the most powerful ways to create positive change in the world. It seems such a pity that so many of the best creative minds are too busy selling SUVs and soft drinks to apply their big brains to the things that really matter. We’re out to change that.” Mr Peacock said.

Phil Benedictus has helped IFAW over the past two years through his outstanding media strategy knowledge to help IFAW get the message out there.

“We love working with IFAW helping raise awareness of animal welfare issues.  In the world of advertising it’s not often that you get a chance to make a positive contribution to the world in this way,” said Phil Benedictus. “Working with IFAW affords us the privilege of being involved in raising awareness about issues which affect us all and which we at Benedictus Media are passionate about. We are honoured (and stoked!) to be getting this award.”

“IFAW wants to recognise that it’s not just the people doing hands on work with animals who make a difference, everyone has the ability to contribute. Raising awareness and helping to change attitudes and behaviours towards animal welfare is just as important.” Ms Martin said.

Ben and Phil are two out of six animal heroes across Australia to receive IFAW accolades this year. The other winners are Marny Bonner and the late Lance Ferris, Australian Seabird Rescue; Wildlife Rescue Award, Shirley Lack; Lifetime Dedication Award, Shania Gardner; Young Achievers Award and Dr Jan Allen; Outstanding Contribution from a Vet.

The winners have been chosen from Australia–wide nominations from friends, family and work colleagues of people who do exceptional work with wild or domestic animals.

IFAW’s Animal Action Week is in its sixteenth year and takes place in 16 countries around the world.  More than 1000 schools in Australia will be taking part this year, using specially designed IFAW education materials focusing on protecting marine wildlife.
