Follow the whale migration...

Whales are migratory animals, traveling vast distances to feed and reproduce in the world’s oceans and bays.

Each year several whale groups leave their feeding grounds in Antarctica to begin their epic voyage of approximately 10,000 kms to Australia’s warmer waters. While abundant food is available for whales in Antarctica, newborn calves would not survive in the icy waters of the Antarctic; hence the annual return to the warm waters.

The three most common whales seen in our waters are the Humpback, Southern Right and Killer (Orca) Whales. Humpback and Southern Right whales follow a similar route each year that is learned and passed down over the years.

Many females make the journey while pregnant so they can give birth in Australian waters.
