National Whale Day 2010

Australia's Third National

Whale Day is on Saturday 5th

June 2010.

National Whale Day was launched in 2008 by IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare) as a day for all Australians to celebrate their love of whales, as well as draw attention to some of the threats they face today, which include whaling, climate change, ship strikes, marine debris and ocean noise.

IFAW’s National Whale Day 2010 will be held at the historic La Perouse Museum Botany Bay, Sydney.

Asia Pacific Director Erica Martin and guest speaker Environment Minister Peter Garret will open the day by addressing the key issues facing whale conservation including the proposed IWC package. The IWC meeting will be held in Agadir, Morocco June 21- 25, to discuss a proposal which if adopted would overturn the 1986 ban on commercial whaling by authorising whaling by Japan, Iceland and Norway.

You can help us stop the sell out!

There will be an IFAW educational information booth, a chance to sign petitions, our life size Humpback Whale ‘Venus’ and her calf as well as fun activities for the kids.

Tails for Whales

Message from Christine Anu:

"Australians' love of whales and the ocean is world famous!  We're still trying to protect whales but it's time to celebrate everything we love about them and their environment.  Whales are worth so much to us, they are part of our culture, our environment and our communities.  Whales are national treasures and whenever you are in Australia I invite you to join IFAW and celebrate National Whale Day."
