De langste dag is aangebroken is IJsland, en hoewel er nog twee dode vinvissen voor nodig waren, gloort er misschien een sprankje hoop voor de walvissen in dit prachtige land.

Le navire de recherche dernier cri d'IFAW (Fonds international pour la protection des animaux) a jeté l'ancre le week-end dernier dans les eaux monégasques en prélude à ses recherches estivales sur les baleines en Méditerranée.

Avant de reprendre la route pour mener à bien sa mission de protection des cétacés, le Song of the Whale a eu l'honneur de recevoir hier (dimanche 23 juin) la visite de son Altesse sérénissime le Prince Albert II de Monaco.

        今天,国际爱护动物基金会(International Fund for Animal Welfare,简称IFAW,www.ifaw.org.cn)和中华人民共和国海关总署缉私局(简称GACC)在京举办为期3天的打击濒危物种走私培训研讨会,共同促进中国及全球的野生动物保护及执法,提高海关打击跨国野生动物犯罪执法水平。来自全国30多个关区的执法官员参加了这次会议。

        在全球经济高速发展和巨额商业暴利所趋的捕杀压力下,大批野生动物正在沦为商业化和全球化贸易的牺牲品。而野生动物及其制品贸易已与枪支、毒品并称为全球三大非法贸易,并以同样的路径被有组织的跨国、跨洲走私,直接影响着全球所涉及国家的经济、环境与安全。“众所周知,中国及东南亚地区生物多样性丰富,但是这里也是非法野生动物制品重要的消费市场,尤其在象牙、犀牛角和虎制品等关键物种的贸易问题上。作为CITES缔约国,同时也作为一个负责任的大国,中国的执法与管理更为世界各国所关注与期待。” IFAW亚洲区总代表葛芮女士说。

World renowned biologist Dr. Joyce Poole led a Chinese audience into the emotional and behavioral world of African elephants at a public lecture organized by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW - www.ifaw.org) and the China Academy of Sciences (CAS).

The illegal wildlife trade is not only detrimental to many of the world’s endangered species, but also poses a genuine threat to national and global security, a new report by the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW – www.ifaw.org) asserts.

With today’s release of the report Criminal Nature: The Global Security Implications of The Illegal Wildlife Trade, IFAW is one of the first organizations to publicly link the escalating poaching crisis to global security.
