The District of Columbia prohibits private possession of big cats. It is unlawful for a person to possess any animal other than those normally kept as domesticated pets like domestic cats (excluding hybrids with ocelots or margays). This prohibition does not apply to public zoos, parks, or museums for exhibition purposes.
