What’s the life of a sea lion worth?

Back in September, I wrote about the need to amend the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA) after six gray seals were found shot to death on beaches from Dennis to Chatham, Massachusetts. Today, I echo that sentiment even louder with the news out of Seattle that eight sea lions were found shot to death.

Everyone knows Australians love the ocean. And if they can’t be in it, they want to be on it. We have around a million boats in our waters and while most people are having a nice relaxing time, enjoying their surroundings, unfortunately there are a few whose irresponsible behaviour is putting whales and dolphins at risk.

Het sneeuwt hier, in Alaska. Het is een rustige ochtend als we bij Wolf Dog USA arriveren, een particuliere wolvenkennel op ongeveer een uur rijden van Anchorage. Achterin het gebouw zitten 29 wolven en wolfshonden die voor 1 januari moeten worden gered, anders worden ze afgemaakt. We horen geen geblaf. Wolven blaffen niet om te waarschuwen of om aandacht te krijgen, zoals honden.

Delphine Wespiser has always been concerned about animal welfare, but ever since her election as Miss France 2012, she has been determined to use her newly-found fame as a way of advancing a cause she is committed to. Aged only 20, student in international trade, the young Miss has decided to join the ranks of IFAW (International Fund for Animal Welfare - www.ifaw.org) in order to promote animal welfare and help make the world a better place for animals and people, in France and abroad.
