Australian Government announce whale envoy
Former Sydney Olympics chief Sandy Hollway, has been appointed whale envoy by the Rudd Government in Australia, fulfilling one of its pre-election promises.
“Mr Hollway is a well respected and highly successful top level negotiator, who will need to draw heavily on his extensive diplomatic skills in this new role,” IFAW Programs Manager, Darren Kindleysides, said.
With the whaling fleet due to leave Japan in the next month or so, Mr Hollway has stated that he will visit Japan before its departure and will keep working for a suspension on whaling.
IFAW Asia-Pacific strongly welcome his appointment and hope that he will have an impact on Japan's unlawful and inhumane whaling program.
