IFAW Hosts Lobster Summit 2008 - Event Audio

Lobster_summit_header_3On Friday January 11 at the Hyatt Regency in Boston, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) in conjunction with the Atlantic Offshore Lobstermen's Association (AOLA) hosted the first Lobster Summit. The effort by IFAW/AOLA was to bring a diverse set of stakeholders including rope manufacturers, lobstermen, NGOs and other interested parties to a round-table discussion of issues surrounding the mandate by the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service taking effect in October 2008.  This mandate requires that permitted lobstermen change their rope out for a new type designed to help stop the entanglements of whales along the coast of New England.  Listen to the entire 3+ hours of discussion here:
