Washington, D.C.

In July, President Obama issued an Executive Order addressing the U.S’s efforts to combat the illegal wildlife trade. The Administration has now followed-up with the release today of its National Strategy for Combatting Wildlife Trafficking.

Azzedine Downes, President and CEO, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW - www.ifaw.org) said: “IFAW applauds the U.S. Government’s efforts to end the illegal wildlife trade crisis, and we have reached a significant milestone with today’s release of the National Strategy for Combatting Wildlife Trafficking.  As global leaders and one of the world’s biggest ivory consuming countries, the Administration should now work with Congress to close any remaining loopholes in US ivory sales that are not addressed by the Strategy.”
