IFAW campaigning for the Universal Declaration for Animal Welfare
It is shocking to consider that even now there is no global, intergovernmental recognition of the importance of animal welfare legislation. IFAW believes this must change, which is why we support the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare (UDAW). The adoption of this formal declaration at the UN General Assembly would establish animal welfare on the global political agenda.
The declaration process was originally launched by the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) in 2000. IFAW is part of the UDAW steering committee and is collaborating with other animal organisations in support of the Declaration.
The Declaration is an important way for governments to express their commitment to protecting animal welfare and is a vital springboard to changes in international and national policies and animal legislation. It would help strengthen enforcement of animal welfare measures and promote humane treatment of animals in every corner of the world.

Animals of all species have forms of intelligence that we do not possess. We have an obligations to protect. respect and live in harmony with all forms of animal life.

I cannot believe that in this day and age we are still having to fight for the rights of the animals that we, as human beings, have domesticated. We need to step up and take responsibility for the perpetual children that live in almost everyone's homes and hearts. The furry, scaled, and winged creatures of this world need to be given the respect that they so desperately deserve.The time for change is now.
THERE SHOULD BE TOUGHER LAWS WHEN IT COMES TO ABUSE AND NEGLECT DONE TOWARD ANY ANIMALS. TO ME ANYONE THAT DOES THIS HAS NO SOUL IT IS DISPICABLE AND BAD KARMA WILL COME UPON THEM. I JUST CAMT PHANTOM HOW OR WHY? THEY GIVE SUCH UNCONDITIONAL LOVE I DONT UNDERSTAND. IF IT WERE MY DECISION THEY WOULD ALL RECEIVE JAIL TIME FOR THE FIRST OFFENCE GARENTEED!!!
Animals should be treated with the same compassion and respect that we treat people. I cannot imagine life without all animals.
Animals are at the mercy of humans and some times people show no mercy!! LET'S ALL FIGHT FOR THE HUMANE TREATMENT OF ALL LIVING THINGS!!!!
Animals deserve better, enough animal abuse through the centuries!
Animal abuse always escalates into human abuse.
There is not a day that goes by without my having to "hold my breath" thinking I can't take it anymore but then I sit back and push forward. What would this world be without animals? I don't even want to think about it.
It is unbelievable that to this day, there are still no global animal welfare laws. It varies from state to state, country to country, and not all animals are included in the laws. Farm animals are still excluded from any kind of protection, animals on fur farms have no rights, and in may states you can treat your family pet as a possesion and do whatever you want to it.
We need to support the UDAW, and help end animal cruelty, abuse, neglect and torture all over the world.
Wow, if this were to pass, what a differnce it would make in the lives of all animals. How wonderful would that be!!!
