When diving or snorkeling, I am always amazed at just how much noise there is underwater.
As soon as I stepped out of the plane, I recognized immediately that all too familiar smell of fresh southeastern Virginia air, but the 80% humidity was one thing that I did not miss.

After completing an intensive search of the northern Aegean Sea for harbour porpoises, the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s (IFAW) unique whale research vessel, R/V Song of the Whale, headed south last week surveying for sperm whales.
I first sailed as a volunteer on board the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s (IFAW) unique whale research vessel Song of the Whale (SOTW) in spring last year. I wouldn’t have imagined then that I would end up working full-time with the SOTW team.
