A whitecoat pup.Today, we had our second flight to search for seals. For three days all of us have been wondering where the seals are and what was going on. What is unusual for this season is not only the absence of seals, but also the weather.

Ice, but no seals.Many years ago, Masha Vorontsova, from the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s Russia office, suggested to Oleg and Marina Prodan to create a seal watching program on the White Sea in the Russian north. This idea was met with enthusiasm by the couple. They built deep in the forest a high-level ecotourism hotel called the Wildlife Discovery Club.

Everyone at the International Fund for Animal Welfare is deeply saddened by last week's news that the 50 seals found earlier this week on Prince Edward Island were beaten brutally and left to freeze to death.
