IFAW responds to oil spill in Patagonia

“The overall spill is made up of several slicks, two to three kilometers wide along a total extension of approximately forty kilometers,” reported the local newspaper El Chubut. The Argentine government is analyzing recent satellite imagery to determine the cause of the spill but has yet to determine where the oil came from. According to local media reports, several corporations are suspected of causing the spill.
 
Locally, IFAW is working with The Fundación Patagonia Natural (FPN) on site. Currently the center is caring for 430 birds.

Man bitten by 450-lbs tiger near Los Angeles

Orr was attacked as he cleaned the enclosure of a 4-year-old tiger named Alexander. The attack occurred at Shambala Preserve, which is run by the actress Tippi Hendren. The sanctuary has 65 cats, including lions, tigers, leopards and servals.
 
“This just goes to show that big cats are, were, and will always be wild animals,” said Josephine Martell of IFAW. “There are 15,000 thousand big cats just like this one in captivity all over the United States.

EFSA report to European Commission finds Canada's commercial seal hunt inhumane

“The Canadian government’s claim that 98% of the seals are killed humanely in the commercial seal hunt is exposed in the report as being scientifically incorrect.  This report reveals the truth about Canada’s commercial seal hunt, and destroys one of the greatest myths constantly propagated by the Canadian government”, said Sheryl Fink, Senior Researcher with IFAW.

    Japan bows to pressure on humpback whales – but continues largest hunt since whaling ban
