Wetstone to lead IFAW U.S. expansion
Mr. Wetstone will direct all IFAW's work in the United States including protection of wildlife, marine mammals and habitat, work with companion animals in disadvantaged communities and aid to animals affected by natural and man-made disasters such as hurricanes, floods and oil spills.
Mr. Wetstone joins IFAW following 11 years at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) during which he served as the organization’s first Legislative Director, Director of Program and, most recently, Director of Advocacy. Prior to joining NRDC, Mr. Wetstone served for more than a decade as Counsel to the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
“Greg’s experience with environmental law, advocacy work and Congress make him a fantastic addition to the organization,” said Fred O'Regan, President and CEO of IFAW. “IFAW is committed to expanding its U.S. operations both to address critical issues in this country and to harness the important influence the U.S. often has on vital international issues such as commercial whaling and the illegal trade in endangered species. Greg’s tremendous experience, vision and commitment will help IFAW advance this crucial effort.”
IFAW and NRDC have collaborated closely for many years on issues such as marine mammals, habitat protection and ocean noise. Mr. Wetstone is expected to strengthen that working relationship in his new role.
“I have long admired IFAW’s great work, and am thrilled at the prospect of working with IFAW to build its U.S. program and help enhance its effectiveness in Washington and around the world,” said Mr. Wetstone.
