Use our “Unveiling the Ivory Trade” iPad app to help sound the alarm for elephants
‘Unveiling the Ivory Trade’ is an interactive online report aiming to highlight the escalating illegal trade of elephant ivory and to unveil the threat the increasing multi-million-dollar trade poses to the survival of elephants in the wild.
‘Unveiling the Ivory Trade’ brings together the complicated and diverse issue of the ivory trade in a way that we hope you will find visually appealing but also highly enriching and informative.
Start with ‘The Ivory Trade’, which will help you understand how elephants are killed by poachers and how their ivory is trafficked from one country to another before reaching consumer markets.
Then find out what is driving the increasing demand with ‘White Gold–Ivory’s Trade Drivers’ or get to grips with the ‘Great Debate’ on whether the answer to controlling or decreasing the demand for elephant ivory lies inside ‘Trade or no Trade’.
Next week (03 March to 14 March) Thailand, Bangkok is hosting the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP 16) to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).
With each screen our report helps to lift the complicated veil of the ivory trade. For the experts or people who want to dig deeper, the International Fund for Animal Welfare provides the latest live links to their own reports or those done by CITES and other conservation organisations inside the report itself.
This provides us with a perfect opportunity to bring our concerns on elephant conservation to the fore and highlight the challenges we face to conserving this majestic species that has caught our imaginations for centuries.
IFAW would like you to use ‘Unveiling the Ivory Trade’ as a tool to help us to spread awareness on this illegal and barbaric trade that is threatening wild elephants around the world, please explore the screens and share them among your friends and colleagues.
